All of this stay at home stuff will be credited for reducing the number of people that will die from this, but there's no way to say that for certain (since we have no point of comparison) and at what cost? The damage this action is doing to the overall health of the country goes well beyond anything we've ever lived through or experienced before. And to pay for it, the government is mortgaging your children's, grand children's and great grand children's future. \
The government isn't a big piggy bank - it doesn't have any money to hand out - they need to either borrow it or print it. Printing reduces the value of the money you already have (like your savings for your "retirement") and you need more of it to buy the stuff you need. Prices of products generally don't go up, the value of the money goes down.
Obviously the "flattening the curve" concept was only an issue in specific areas and only when you are either not prepared or are treating people who are not at risk of dying from it. They knew very early on who is most at risk from this and could have acted accordingly. But without a plan in place to deal with exactly this, no elected official wants to make the hard decisions or take the blame if things get a bit bumpy.
