Anzac Day a time to 'recognise front line nurses' battling COVID-19

Anzac Day a time to 'recognise front line nurses' battling COVID-19 RAAF Wing Commander Sharon Bown has highlighted the role of nurses in the Australian defense force.

Ms Bown said, “it was incredibly special and a great honour to be able to stand at the Australian War Memorial today and represent all Australian veterans past and present and their families”.

“This year is the World Health Organisation’s international year of the nurse, so it was a year where we would be increasing focus on what nurses do,” she said.

Given the current global pandemic, nurses have obviously been “thrust into the spotlight” along with other health care colleagues, she said.

Ms Bown said, she wanted to “remind Australians that we have overcome significant adversity in the past, that nurses have always been at our frontlines and Australians are recognising now more than ever that they are still at our front lines in the health care system”.
