11-7-2020: In this trip, we make our way up HWY 395 for the first snow of the season! We stop by the Alabama hills to camp out before the rest of our Journey to the Kavanaugh Ridge. Before heading up, we stop by the frozen waterfall at the Mt. Whitney portal.
The Kavanaugh Ridge trail (22317) is a 2.79 mile moderate 4WD trail that starts at 9,400 ft. and goes up all the way to 11,000 ft. This is a fairly steep climb with an elevation gain of 1,688 ft. The trail wasn't extremely technical, but it will surely stress out any vehicle that doesn't have 4 low or an aggressive single speed transmission.
We camp by Mammoth Lakes, CA right next to a natural hotspring and soak in while it's snowing! I give tips and tricks on how to sleep in your vehicle during the winter.
