Hundreds of vehicles were seen lining up in a giant queue outside a petrol station in Khartoum on Tuesday as fuel shortages continue to hit Sudan, amid a coronavirus lockdown.

The drone footage shows a kilometres-long queue snaking around the station and splitting in both directions of the road.

Only nine petrol stations are operating in the Sudanese capital as the authorities have tried to restrict access to refuelling for private vehicles in an effort to guarantee supply for emergency services.

Khartoum was placed under lockdown for three weeks on Saturday, with the government having declared a state of emergency and closed educational institutions in March.
