The account merge feature ended on May 6th 2019, two days before season 9 began. We have been receiving similar concern as yours and we highly recommend posting your thoughts to the suggestions and advice forum

We are currently testing out the account merging feature for further use as we faced many bugs and issues the first time it was enabled. We stride to ensure perfect quality for our customers and decided to remove the account merging feature on May 6th, 2019. We plan to enable it again sometime in the coming seasons as we see a high demand for the feature to come back
While you can no longer merge accounts as of now, you should be able to link different platforms together to one account.
