Global Carbon Project predicts cardon dioxide emissions could fall by the largest amount since World War II.
The predicted fall has been attributed to global lockdown restrictions.
The last significant decline was 1.4 per cent after the 2008 global financial crisis.
In China emissions are believed to have dived by 18 per cent between early February and mid-March due to falls in coal consumption.
Meanwhile in Europe, declining manufacturing caused a rapid 400 million metric ton fall this year.
